Reader, and then. . . She [very kindly] interrupted me, pointed to her temples, and said, “The problem is here”. 🫠 *psshhh. you mean the chief getting in her own way officer? nahht me* *= internal dialogue ⏪ ⏪ Last week, a whole host of creative educators convened in Dallas to learn how to better serve our people. Some of the brightest minds in our industry were firing off 🎤 drops from the stage and in circles around tables because, at the Creative Educator Conference, the ones sitting in the crowd are also qualified to be speaking from the stage. |
To tell on myself: I almost didn’t grab a ticket. And without the impeccable peer pressure of two dear friends, I wouldn’t have had the conversation that dismantled one of my biggest roadblocks. (Dennah & Katherine, y’all da real MVPs) ▶️ now back to Ashlyn’s 1:1 convo with me → “the problem is here” Ashlyn Carter is one of the few I’ve looked up to for my entire solopreneur career. From jumping into CfC back when she soft-launched it and I had no clue that I needed strategic copy for my website that didn’t just say “heyo, I’m Rach. And I like iced coffees only ever always so let me photography your wedding!” → to this specific moment when I felt validated and seen yet equally nudged to no longer stay where I had been stuck for 5-ever. Ash: “If I put a 🎤 in your face and asked you to answer q’s and give solutions, would you have the words?” Rach: “Yeah.” Ash: “So, it’s not the knowledge or expertise. The qualifications are there. You’re just getting in your own way.” *knife to the heart* 🎙️ Let me answer your q's in real time = words for days ☕️ Jump on a digi coffee chat and we'll be screen sharin 8 minutes in to get you unstuck ✍🏻 Lemme in on the gaps in your brand and we've got a bridge sketched in no time 3 Things I Learned 🙋🏼♀️ I wasn't the problem, but I was.You know when you think there’s mascara smeared on your face but no one has pointed it out, but you just KNOW it’s there? Well, that’s how I felt before Ashlyn held up the mirror to confirm it. Not mascara (PTL). Me, being all up in my head. THIS is why you need people in your life that will tell you what you don’t want to hear. Whether it’s that you have [in fact] had raccoon eyes for the last 4hrs OR that all your “reasons” are outdated excuses and it's about dang time you moved on and remembered → inaction affects more than just me. 🙈 Regardless of my feelings, at some point, I must become visible. That idea has been buffering for ‘bout 11.85 months. “Maybe your problem isn’t your offers or clarity or even your capability - you’re INVISIBLE.” (another gotcha piece of advice from a conference last Feb). And being the “okay, prove it” type of gal that I am. I [obviously] tried to gather all the data to prove her wrong - spoiler: she wasn’t wrong Each time I stepped out of the shadows and into conversations, sales calls, and rooms with people I could serve, I realized time and again - sales came in the door. So? Maybe your business, service, product, (you?) isn’t broken. Maybe there just aren’t [enough] people in the room with you who need the thing you provide. Find new rooms. The RIGHT rooms to be in → online, in-person. GET VISIBLE. (more on that next week) ⛺️ "I don't know how" is no longer the place to make camp & stay awhileNot knowing has sometimes been my problem, but this time, it was my pretend problem. The one I used to give myself license to not move out of the shadows. For you? It might be a viable hangup. And if it is, this is me pulling you to the side of the room and choosing to not let you stay stuck. ⍰ Raise your hand. Ask the dang question. Call up a friend, send that DM to someone you’re nervous to ask [like me with Ashlyn], book a coaching call, and respond to emails you subscribe to. You’ll never be faulted for curiosity. There are people out there waiting to help you get unstuck. Ashlyn ended our convo by saying, “Let me write down 3 smaller resources I invested in last year that helped me get out of my head and get moving again.” And Reader. 15 minutes later, she handed me a piece of paper that was written on BOTH SIDES. Please. Ask questions. 🔎 Google it. If you want to know how I learned half of what I know now, it probably started with a Google search query. YouTube taught me how to use my camera. Online courses helped me build my photography business. Blogs and podcasts fueled my brand and marketing savvy. And you can even ask ai to teach you about something or how to do something - I mean probably fact check what it writes, but it’s crazy what it can teach you. Use the resources you find to get you from “stuck to started” (as my friend Dawn says). See you next week! From The Learning Logbook> 🎧 "Control the controllable." - this episode of the Independent Business Podcast dishes out some *tea* about switching IG's role in your strategy from sales-driving to community building. I rewinded about 4x and ✍🏻 a large heap of notes. Go give it a listen. Stay Tuned🗓️ 1:1 coaching spots on the calendar debut this Friday.
